# List Tags

<Note>New to tags? See the [Tags guide](/concepts/tags) for how tags attach to records.</Note>

Tags are a flat, per-organization vocabulary (the `org_tags` table) shared between deals and contacts — `deals.tags` and `contacts.tags` store tag **names** as plain strings, not foreign keys. Returns every tag defined for the caller's organization, ordered alphabetically by name.

### Auth

Requires a CRM read [scope](/authentication#scopes) and an active organization on the token. Any of `contacts:read`, `deals:read`, `companies:read`, or `activities:read` qualifies, as does any `*:manage` scope — manage implies read.

### Response

| Field | Type | Description |
| ---------------- | -------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `tags` | array of tag objects | See below. |
| `tags[].id` | `string` (uuid) | Primary key. |
| `tags[].org_id` | `string` (uuid) | Owning organization. |
| `tags[].name` | `string` | Tag label, unique per organization. |
| `tags[].color` | `string \| null` | Hex color for the tag chip, or `null` if never set. |
| `schema_version` | `integer` | Always `1` today — reserved for a future breaking change to this response shape. |
