# List Folders

> List every non-archived folder for the active org (flat array).

<Note>New to folders? See the [Files & Folders guide](/concepts/files-and-folders) for how the tree fits into the files feature. This page is the field-level technical reference.</Note>

Folders form an adjacency-list tree: each row has a `parent_id` pointing at its parent, and `null` means a root-level folder. Returns every non-archived folder in the active org as a **flat array**, ordered alphabetically by name — the tree structure isn't pre-built into the response, so reconstruct it yourself from each folder's `parent_id`.

### Auth

Requires a CRM read [scope](/authentication#scopes) and an active organization on the token. Any of `contacts:read`, `deals:read`, `companies:read`, or `activities:read` qualifies, as does any `*:manage` scope — manage implies read.
